"The Big Book of Bat-tivities" is a boutique workbook that offers hours of informative and engaging activities focused on the conservation of the endangered Spectacled Flying-fox. Studio Marobi was provided with a concept and message by the Bats and Trees Society of Cairns (BatSoc) and worked closely with them to create, illustrate, and construct this educational resource. Our collaboration ensured that the workbook met their vision and was provided ready for printing, delivering a valuable tool for raising awareness and educating about these fascinating bats.

The Big Book of Bat-tivities has been distributed across the region and nationally, serving as a valuable tool for educators and communities to learn about flying fox conservation.
“The Bats and Trees Society of Cairns, also known as BatSoc, works with bat carers, conservation groups, local, state, and national governments to conserve the critically endangered Spectacled Flying-fox and other flying mammal species in the Wet Tropics. Our aim is to enable all people to live peacefully with all bats. And to do this, a significant effort is put into community education.
Matilda Bishop recently worked with the Bat Soc on two, very successful education projects. In 2023, she designed and illustrated the amazing A3 poster showcasing 40 Far North Queensland bat species in flight. This poster will be used as an educational resource within the community, and for visitors, interested in learning how to recognise local bats. This is a resource that Bat Soc will use for many years, as is the 2022 Big Book of Bat-tivities, that Matilda wrote, designed, and illustrated. This children’s book is focused on learning about the Spectacled Flying Fox. It has been very well received by educators and members of the community alike. The Big Book has been distributed across the region and nationally.
